Duke Super Bowl

Welcome to the official web site of the Duke Super Bowl, celebrating Duke's chance to beat Notre Dame in a real tackle football game! This game is a big deal for Duke football fans - since we're not allowed to go to Bowl games (due to our inability to qualify with enough wins), this is our best chance for a big victory and to experience a bowl game. Needless to say we will be well-represented in South Bend on the 17th, as Duke football fans are known to travel for big games. This site is dedicated to those fans who will be there in person to watch this history-making event.

11/19 NOTE: WHAT WE LEARNED

Seriously? That was it? DSB Nation - we were trying to stay positive, but seriously??? We are not going to comment on the game. Miserable.

What did we learn?

First, if the outcome is unclear - GO TO A WARM WEATHER CLIMATE. South Bend is cold and sad. 2 days later and we still feel like winter.

Second, probably should target a slightly better opponent for the DSB for a couple of reasons - a) it will feel more like an upset if we win and b) each team will not try to play to the level of its opponent, resulting in the death spiral that we saw on Saturday.

Third, less beer more alcohol. That game begged for consistent drinking.

Our favorite moment: ND fans were clearly desperate. They needed that win bad. I think a shutout would have been cathartic. When Duke scored in the 4th quarter, the entire student section went completely silent. We cheered loudly. And they didn't respond. No "Scoreboard" - nothing. This season has completely worn them down, and there were so many obvious comebacks, but they chose silence. We felt a little bad for some of them... which made us feel better.

Next Year... Nash Vegas for Super Bowl II.

11/15 NOTE: THE ROLLER COASTER

Wow, yesterday was a crazy day at the DSB. Did I say the DSB was 4,000 strong? I meant 20,000. Here's a quick recap of our day:

Morning: The critics come out to discuss the DSB. First, Ivan Meisel of ESPN - you broke my heart. Not that we don't appreciate the promo - we do. And we're glad you thought we are funny, but did you really have to call us out like that for all of DSB Nation to read? You are right, we do not have editors here. We had been trying to pretend that we were a professional site but now the world knows the truth - and the truth hurts the DSB. But you know what hurts more? Calling us sophomoric. Let me review for you some things we've been called by other readers: "hilarious", "life-changing", "so funny and clever", "made my day," etc. And that is all true except "life-changing." And my Mom loves the site. Please take back the sophomoric comment.

Late Afternoon: Our site is totally crashing. Along with editors, we need programmers. And apparently bandwidth. We are completely in over our head.

Evening: Just when we thought things couldn't get worse, we got some very good news - for DSB Nation. We received an email from a private investor who may step up and turn the DSB into a real web site. We've told him to hold off because we cannot be distracted for the big game, but we'll keep you updated. So we got that going for us.

Late Evening: Our site keeps crashing. We no longer have pictures. And a woman in Australia is trying to help us but it quickly becomes clear that she is just using her cool accent to hide the fact that we are totally screwed!

11/13 NOTE: WWCKD?

Sometimes in life, you face difficult dilemnas. And it's not always easy to figure out the right answer. At the DSB, we had our first hate mail from a Notre Dame fan. It got a bit nasty - he called Duke fans a**h**es. We tried to tell him about the politics of hope, but he would have none of it. He really didn't like us. So we took him on in a pithy email exchange... and we're happy to report that we DOMINATED him. I mean it was a whitewash. Total destruction. And then we thought - why not post it to the web site for all of DSB Nation to enjoy. But as we went to the DSB computer to start typing, we saw our Coach K screensaver and thought "What Would Coach K Do?" And we realized that Coach K would show real class - and would not post the email. He would have said "A leader has to be positive about all things that happen to his team." So we will not post the email. Of course, Coach K is known to have a bit of a mean streak and sometimes even swears at refs, and he would have wanted us to send a message. So, Brian W - 1997 ND Grad who wears his ring - let this be a message to you that you shouldn't send mean emails because DSB Nation is 4000 strong - and if forced to action, we will respond accordingly.

11/12 NOTE: It's the Monday of Game Week. What will you do today to prepare for the DSB? That's the question you should ask yourself every morning when you wake up this week. Here's what we did: we read the article on Ty Willingham and global warming and decided to plant a tree. Remember, this game is not about winning or losing, it's about making the world a better place. Of course, this week is also about the anticipation of playing in a big game. If it were about winning, we'd be just like ND fans and would be sad and miserable about our team and program. But we're not. So this is a big week - Live the dream!

11/10 NOTE: Did everybody see the Air Force game? We can beat Notre Dame! We watched it all on NBC. Air Force has small players with a lot of heart and patriotism – just like us. And you know the saying – Mom, Duke and Apple Pie… USA! DUKE!

Did anybody see the Duke game? Our team was clearly looking past Ga Tech to the Super Bowl but we didn’t actually see the game because we couldn't find it on TV. We looked on CBS and ABC while NBC showed the Air Force game. We assume there must have been some sort of broadcasting problem given our national fan base and comparable record to ND.
